As its name suggests, Masu is mostly known for its creative sushi and robata (meat on a stick).

But don’t miss the pork belly ramen, which includes chewy noodles; lush, slow-roasted pork; a fish cake; and a poached egg.

The pork stock is rich and flavorful, and the egg puts it over the top.

The bold, trendy Asian decor can make Masu seem intimidating, but servers will gladly explain the extensive menu to newbies, and the tea is as warming as the soup.

Masu Sushi & Robata: 330 Hennepin Ave. E., Minneapolis, and 344 South Avenue in Mall of America; 612-332-6278 or 952-896-6278; masusushiandrobata.com. Pork belly ramen, $12.50.
